Tips for resolving conflict with business partners

On Behalf of | Mar 31, 2026 | BUSINESS & COMMERCIAL LAW - Business Litigation

Even when chosen with the best possible motives, business partners can definitely become a source of stress and contention. It’s practically inevitable that eventually most entrepreneurs wind up butting heads with their business partners.

So, what to do when conflicts arise? Below are a few suggestions.

Keep lines of communication open

Nothing gets solved without communication between the parties. If things are too volatile to have a conversation, waiting until cooler heads prevail and then texting or emailing may be prudent.

Remain civil

Allowing the situation to devolve into cursing or slinging accusations at one another is counterproductive. Don’t let yourself get rage-baited into adversely acting out, as that can damage not only your own reputation but that of the business, too.

Separate fact from opinion

People can have very strong and disparate ideas about a matter. You may never see eye-to-eye, but you both can agree on certain facts. Start with the facts as your foundation and build from there.

Keep primary goal foremost

You’re partners because you both add complementary value to the company. However the chips may fall, the best interests of the business should come first. It’s your shared investment.

Try negotiation, mediation first

With heated disagreements between business partners, litigation should be the last option — and biggest gun. As it is less expensive to negotiate or mediate, it is usually a good idea to exhaust all other remedies for the dispute before turning to the Nevada civil courts to resolve it.
